In the past two years, Kenadie has been winged (bumble bee and devil/angel). So this year we thought we'd go for something more fitting of her personality.... A little black cat. It's too perfect! Cute little black ears, black leotard, shoes, a few whiskers drawn and and el fin!
Quickly I realized that I underestimated my child and apparently she had been paroozing costume catalogs and decided (in a very explicit conversation with me) that she wanted to be something scary. Nervous to even ask what she pops with "I want to be a Sumo!" Ok, what?! "Mommy, I want to be a Sumo" and proceeds to laugh. All I am thinking at this point is, "Dear God, who put this into her head and how do I get it out!?" Now I tried the art of persuasion and again, she was too quick for me. "What about a princess?" I asked. "Nooooo, Mommy! I HAVE to be something really, really scary!" (insert total sass) Nothing this sassy should be a Sumo, please! Now I asked what else could she be and here are the replies that proceeded Sumo:
"A goblin!"
"Aaaaa GHOST!"
"How 'bout a skeleton!"
Seeing where she is going with this I asked her if she wanted to be a witch? With her eyes lit up wide she screams "YES! YAY!! But Mommy, it has to be a scary witch." Lord forbid it's a pretty witch...
After a few minutes of being quiet I asked her if she wanted to be something funny. And so...this is what I got:
"(Giggle with hand over her mouth) Mommy, I can be a hot dog and you and Daddy be ketchup and mustard...(LAUGHS OUT LOUD with her hand over her mouth and then slaps her knee)" Jackpot! Loved it! "Ok, that sounds funny! Let's do it!" That was dumb of me to reply, because then she closed with, "No mommy, I'm just kidding. I still want to be the scary witch." I guess I took a sigh of relief that my 2 year old wouldn't be walking around in a sumo suit on Halloween and now she'll be a scary witch with a mole on her face. A win, win for all of us :)
