Big Girl Bed

Every mother dreads the day when their little one becomes a grown up and flies the coop. I know what you are thinking, "Sharus, she's not even 2 yet!" But this past weekend, she graduated to a big girl bed. (Sigh) My big girl is out of her crib and sleeping like an adult. I've got to say, I thought this was going to be a nightmare... but Kenadie has once again proven to me that she is an amazing little girl.

The first night went a little like this:
6:00pm - Kenadie was introduced to the big girl bed and REJOICED at the site of the missing crib. Jumped on the bed and exclaimed "No more monkey's jumping on the bed!!"
8:00pm - Jammies, Milk, Bed
8:10pm - MELT DOWN!!
8:30pm - Still melting down!
9:45pm - Just stopped melting down and has now fallen asleep in the bed.
11:30pm - Fell out of bed (we have padding on the floor for this occassion) woke up crying and I went into the room to lay with her
12:00am - Fell back asleep with my hand on her belly, went to move the hand and had melt down
12:30am - sleeping in the toddler bed and horribly uncomfortable, decided to move to the floor where meltdown struck up again. I'm exhausted...
1:30am - fell back asleep with my hand on belly...AGAIN... woke up when hand was moved
2:00am - Gave up and moved her into our bed so I could sleep for at least a few hours
6:30am - Miss K was up and at em!

Needless to say I made many mistakes this first night. I now know this, and have changed things since this night. Second night went a lot smoother...

8:00pm - Bath, Jammies, Milk, into bed for story and prayers
8:30pm - SUCCESS!!!
7:00am (The next day) - HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! Baby girl slept all night and walked into our bedroom with a huge smile and made my heart melt!

So you may wonder, what was different. I read in a book that you have to change up the routine a bit since kids associate the old routine with the old bed. So instead of rocky, rocky in the chair, we laid in bed, read a story, talked about the day and how much fun we had, said prayers and DONE! She does her normal chitter chatter with her Mickey and Minnie and then tucked under her covers fell asleep. Ever since, she's been amazing! I'm so lucky to have her as my little girl. She just surprises me everyday.
