Hanging Out at the Zoo

One winter afternoon, we decided to take Kenadie to her first trip to the zoo. After reading books about animals; big, small, stinky and furry, it was time to put the smell to the animal. The first guy we encountered, whom was not photographed, was the ant eater. Has anyone seen an anteater in real life? Um... creepy and cute. If that's even possible... He had a really LONG nose and an even LONGER, bushier tail. That's right... BUSHY TAIL! He would come right up to the glass where Kenadie was standing and nudge it with his long nose. She would then start to giggle and exclaim "HE LIKES ME!"

We then journeyed over to the snow leopard, which apparently are very rare and very pretty. Kenadie was enjoying the leopard as they exchanged growls. As for me... I was almost escorted out of the zoo as I was sharing the idea that he'd look great as a coat or some sort of through blanket (ALL KIDDING OF COURSE!) at the sametime, Chey was reading the fact that he was on the endangered species list. Needless to say, no one laughed at my joke and I abruptly placed my adorable Steve Maddens into my mouth. (not the first time)

After we visited the leopard, tigers, lions and random anteater, we walked passed this guy...

Have you ever seen such a head on an animal?? You probably can't tell, but his head made a basketball look like a tennis ball. Again, Kenadie gave him a "OOH, OOhhh, AAH, AHH!" and it was off to our next wild animal.

She called these guys, the Dupas. In our house we don't tend to say butt, or ass... we say Dupa. That's been the word decades! So, as we walked up to these guys, Aron said, "look at the zebra's!!" and she replied "Hi Dupas!" and laughed. And after taking a picture of them, you can see why she said that...

The next stop after the Dupafest, were the fish! And who better fitted to enjoy oddly shaped, slimy fish than Papa! In fact, she made him sit with her and take this picture as onlookers were trying to figure out why these fish were photo worthy. We closed out the day with an angry ostrich, the Madagascar Lemar who liked to "move it, move it!" and finally with Daddy's people... the flamingos! The interesting part of the flamingos was that you could walk right up to their feeding area and they were 2 feet away from you. Now think of this in a 1 year olds mindset... JACKPOT! We had her convinced that these pink legged birds were called Daddy's, so she started screaming, "HI DADDY!!" to all the big ones. Then, a little mini flamingo came up out of the water... Baby Daddy! To most people you'd think a baby anything is nice... no. This Baby Daddy wanted to attack Kenadie. He continued to pace near her, frankly making me a bit nervous... So after a few photos with the flamingos, we bailed. No need to explain to Aron how we got mauled by 20 flamingos... never a good situation!

At the end of our day, we took Kenadie by the gift shop where she donated to the zoo for our favorite Dupa, Lemar or Daddy... it was hard to choose one since they were all so fun!
